§ 12-8. Municipal court technology fee.

  • (a)

    Assessment of fee. A defendant convicted of a misdemeanor offense in a municipal court of the city shall be assessed and required to pay a four dollar ($4.00) municipal court technology fee. Each misdemeanor conviction shall be subject to a separate assessment of the fee. A person is convicted if a sentence is imposed on the person; the person is placed on community supervision, including deferred adjudication community supervision; or the court defers final disposition of the person's case.

    (b)

    Collection of fee. The municipal court clerk is authorized and required to collect the fee. All fees collected shall be deposited in the municipal court technology fund.

    (c)

    Use of funds. The fund shall be used for the purpose of financing the purchase of technological enhancements for the municipal courts of the city, including computer systems, computer networks, computer hardware, computer software, imaging systems, electronic kiosks, electronic ticket writers, and docket management systems.
