§ 21-19. Specification of flares, electric lanterns, fuses and flags.

  • (a)

    Each flare or liquid burning pot torch shall be capable of burning for not less than twelve (12) hours in five (5) miles per hour wind velocity and capable of burning in any wind velocity from zero (0) to forty (40) miles per hour. Each flare shall be capable of being seen and distinguished at a distance of five hundred (500) feet under normal atmospheric conditions at nighttime. Every such flare shall be substantially constructed so as to withstand shock without leaking.

    (b)

    Every electric lantern shall be red and shall be capable of operation for not less than twelve (12) hours and shall be substantially constructed so as to withstand shock without breakage. Each electric lantern shall be capable of being seen and distinguished at a distance of five hundred (500) feet under normal atmospheric conditions at nighttime.

    (c)

    Every fuse shall be made in accordance with specifications of the bureau of explosives, and so marked and shall be capable of burning at least fifteen (15) minutes.

    (d)

    Each flag shall be of red cloth, not less than twelve (12) inches square, with supporting standards.
