§ 21-186. Reciprocity.

  • The express purpose of this article being the provision of sufficient parking facilities for disabled persons, it is hereby declared the policy of this city to recognize for purposes of enforcement of this article the designation of any vehicle used to transport a handicapped person which vehicle is so designated by any state or political subdivision of the United States in accordance with the law of that state or political subdivision. Accordingly, it shall be an affirmative defense to prosecution under section 21-183 that the vehicle was marked for the disabled in accordance with the law of the state in which the vehicle is registered or in accordance with the laws of the political subdivision where the registered owner resides; provided, said vehicle was in fact transporting a disabled person when it parked in the marked space.
