    PREFACE

    This publication constitutes a republication and updating of the City of Irving Comprehensive Development Codes, published by the Department of Community Development, which included Zoning Ordinance Nos. 1144 and 209, kept up-to-date by city personnel through July 19, 1984, and includes the Subdivision Regulations of the City, previously published in the City Code, Chapter 35, as well as ordinances affecting the zoning and subdivision regulations through the present.

    Amendatory ordinances are indicated in the history notes appearing in parentheses following the affected section. Absence of a history note following a section indicates that the section derives unchanged from the original zoning or subdivision ordinance. The user of this volume is directed to the Comparative Tables of Amendments preceding the index. Any amending ordinance will be located by ordinance number in these tables and the individual section or subsection that was amended will be listed.

    Supplements to the Development Codes will contain an instruction sheet directing the removal of obsolete pages and the insertion of replacement pages. The instruction sheet for the most current supplement should be placed in the front of the volume, and it is recommended that deleted pages be saved and filed for historical reference.

    As part of the publication project, a comprehensive index was prepared. Each particular subject has been placed under several headings, some of the headings being couched in lay phraseology, others in legal terminology and still others in language generally used by city officials and employees. There are numerous cross references within the index which stand as guideposts to direct the user to the particular item in which he is interested.

    This Code is presented for the use and benefit of the citizens of Irving, Texas. Publication was under the direct supervision of Robert L. Laslie, Vice-President Supplements, and Charles Vignos, Supplement Editor, of the Municipal Code Corporation, Tallahassee, Florida. Credit is gratefully given to the other members of the publisher's staff for their sincere interest and able assistance throughout the project.
