§ 6-16. Spaying or neutering of adopted animals.

  • (a)

    It is unlawful for the purchaser of any impounded dog or cat to fail to present to the animal services manager a certificate from a licensed veterinarian, showing the dog or cat has been rendered permanently incapable of sexual reproduction within thirty (30) days after purchase.

    (b)

    It is an affirmative defense to subsection (a) of this section that a veterinarian has advised the purchaser to wait for a period of time before having the animal spayed or neutered and the animal was spayed or neutered by the date specified for extension by the veterinarian.

    (c)

    It is an affirmative defense to subsection (a) of this section that the dog or cat was sterile when adopted.
